Monica Blacker has extensive experience assisting clients in high stakes litigation and restructurings. During her 22 years of practice at several BigLaw firms, she represented debtors, secured and unsecured creditors in many major cases. She takes a collaborative approach to her practice with the goal of obtaining the highest possible recovery for her clients in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Given Monica’s 22 year career as a Restructuring and Reorganization Attorney, she has been retained by companies navigating the restructuring process as a tool for their in-house team to interface with outside counsel and other advisors. She becomes an invaluable member of the company’s team acting as a chief legal strategy officer to assess and manage the alternative restructuring strategies.

Monica routinely represented clients in court proceedings and out-of-court restructurings and played a leading role in a number of significant restructurings. A few recent examples include:

  • Represented the largest unsecured trade creditor and co-chair of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Chapter 11 proceedings of Energy Future Holdings, Corp. (formerly TXU)

  • Represented midstream company in the Chapter 11 proceeding of Parallel Energy

  • Represented trade creditor in Sherwin Alumina Chapter 11 proceeding

  • On behalf of a secured creditor, secured full recovery on a $492 million loan in the PJ Finance Chapter 11 proceeding

  • Represents several large institutional landlords in bankruptcy proceedings in Texas, New York, and Delaware
